Camera Gear
Back in 2001 I decided I was in need of a new hobby. Computers, which were my hobby,
were quickly becoming my career. As I wasn't much of an artist and already had a
music hobby, I decided to jump into the world of photography. At the time though,
I didn't want to bother with film and decided to wait until some high quality digital
cameras were available at prices I could afford.
After getting some money for Christmas, 2002, I quickly purchased my first digital
camera, the Sony F717.
At five megapixels and with a fast f2.0 - f2.4 lens, it was (and still is) a great
camera. For the next nine months I was completely hooked on photography and took
about 4000 photos. It was at this time that Canon introduced the first digital SLR
camera for under $1000. I bought one the first week it was available.
In March, 2007, I made a few substantial upgrades to my kit. I retired my original
Digital Rebel and purchased the newer Digital Rebel XTi. Additionally, I filled
out my lens collection with a 30mm f1.4 Sigma, a Canon 60mm f2.8 Macro lens, and
most recently a Canon's 85mm f1.8 lens. I also purchased two new flashes for a total
of 3 so that I can work on my off-camera flash technique. Having accquired so much
gear, I also purchased a Lowepro Computrekker Plus to haul it (and the laptop) around.
Update, October 2007: My gear has basically remained the same since I made the purchases
for Mirellise and Tom's wedding, but I added a Lowepro Primus AW backpack and a
77mm B+W Kaesemann polarizing filter. The Primus backpack is absolutely perfect for a day out
hiking or touring a city. It holds just the right amount of photography and non-photography
gear and is comfortable to wear.
Below is a list of the current camera gear I own. The links go to Amazon's product
